Bad Habit?

Not sure if its just me! I am very used to double-clicking on the {control button} as its called on top left corner of a window to close it, rather than use the "X" on the top right corner, guess its a very old habit.

More recently, having trouble getting accustomed to the "false window" that is displayed to make the window look cooler. Taking example of Windows Live messenger, the window I see looks like

By force of habit, i double click on the window icon on the top left corner and the window maximises, rather than close :)

If i hit "Alt", the window reveals the control button and that works as normal. I double-click on the messenger icon and that closes the window

Is this a problem with me or should the thought have gone into the application design since the double-click-to-close was always provided as a feature in "normal" windows.

I am now having to get used to "normal" way of closing windows :)

Interesting point Niru. Until I read this post I didn't realize that double clicking on the left top closes a window :)

However one point with respect to the Live messenger toolbar on the left. I have single clicked on the icon on the left top corner multiple times as it looks similar to the icon on Microsoft office which brings a drop down menu. Instead of superimposing the menu on this window, I would have liked to see a single menu drop down from the icon on the left.

What do you think ?

I too never noticed, since I try using my keyboard a lot.

After reading this post i tried out a few applications

Google Chrome is without the feature, so double clicking the left top corner does nothing :) except for activating my first tab.

GoogleTalk does nothing on a single click, but double clicking the left corner, minimize it to the system tray.

Vinod, I like your idea about having the window menu function like MS Office.

Regarding the Messenger window, you can just hit ESC on the keyboard and that will close that window. That's an even quicke solution than doubleclicking or going all the way to the corner of the screen when you're typing.
